The Trakehner

The most popular German horse breeds are the Trakehners, which have been famous for their endurance and courage ever since the horses of the well known Trakehner Stud in East Prussia undertook a nine hundred mile trek to escape from the advancing Russian armies.

They are a more elegant horse breed than the Hanoverians and make excellent riding and showing horses.

The Swedish Saddle Horse is one of the most recently developed of the all purpose riding horses, and contains Arabian, Thoroughbred, Trakehner and Lipizzana blood.-

They have been selectively bred since the beginning of the nineteenth century for temperament as well as conformation, and are as a result a very elegant, equable riding horse, up to weight and with the scope for International competing, and equally popular with civilians, the Army and the Police.
